Dynamic group performs TITANIC, the Musical, in Concert
CONROE, Texas – March 25, 2019 – The Montgomery County Choral Society will perform TITANIC, the Musical, in Concert on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sanctuary at First United Methodist Conroe, 4308 W. Davis St., Conroe, TX 77304.
“We are excited to bring this award-winning musical to Conroe and Montgomery County,” said Heather Orr, artistic director of the Montgomery County Choral Society. “The historical significance of the disaster is lost on none of us and adds to our desire to honor the ship in music.”
TITANIC, the Musical, in Concert, based on a story and book by Peter Stone, features music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and orchestrations by Ian Weinberger. The Tony Award-winning musical was produced on Broadway by Dodger Theatricals, Richard S. Pechter and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The sinking of the Titanic in the early hours of April 15, 1912, remains the quintessential disaster of the twentieth century. A total of 1,517 souls—men, women and children—lost their lives (only 711 survived). The fact that the finest, largest, strongest ship in the world—called, in fact, the “unsinkable” ship—should have been lost during its maiden voyage is so incredible that, had it not actually happened, no author would have dared to contrive it.
An epic, sweeping musical drama, TITANIC examines the causes, the conditions and the characters involved in the ever-fascinating drama of the RSS Titanic. This is the factual story of that ship—of her officers, crew and passengers, to be sure—but she will not, as has happened so many times before, serve as merely the background against which fictional, melodramatic narratives are recounted. The central character of our TITANIC is the Titanic herself.
TITANIC, the Musical, In Concert is presented by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK.tamswitmark.com
