When I was a teenager, my best friend moved to Spain, and suddenly, our daily get togethers ended!
That was many decades ago so we didn’t have cell phones that we could just pick up and call all over the world.
No texting, no emailing!
No easy and quick way to tell her what was going on in my life, or find out about her life. Yet, there was one way to stay in touch, a way that has become almost extinct in the 21st century.
Personal letter writing
So, letters it was! I learned so much about Spain, the culture, the colorful scenery, that I almost felt like I was there at times. And, I kept her informed about life at home. Two years seemed to fly by, thanks to those letters.
If you’ve never experienced the excitement of watching the mailbox for a letter from your best friend, you have truly missed out.
Maybe we could take a few minutes now, out of our somewhat self-quarantined time these days, and surprise an old friend with an encouraging handwritten letter. Wouldn’t it be nice to open that mailbox and find something besides bills and junk mail?
Now, turn the bleak TV news off and go dig out your pen and paper and get busy writing!
