CONROE, Texas – July 11, 2018 – Heather Orr, head director of choral activities at Montgomery High School, has been appointed artistic director of the Montgomery County Choral Society. In addition, Craig Stephan, who has been the society’s interim director, has been named associate director/accompanist.
With a Master of Arts in vocal pedagogy from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Music in voice performance from Heidelberg University, Orr has spent 17 years of her 23-year career as a teacher at Montgomery High School, consistently leading her choirs to earn Sweepstakes at University Interscholastic League competitions and recognition as First Divisions and Best in Class at several festivals in Texas, Florida and New York.
“I have attended performances of Ms. Orr’s Montgomery High School Choir over the past several years and am always impressed with the quality of her choirs as well as the energy and enthusiasm she exudes,” Doris Hickman, president of MCCS said. “I look forward to working with her in bringing the Montgomery County Choral Society to a new level of vitality.”
In addition to earning honors for her choirs, Orr herself has been recognized with the UIL Sponsor Excellence Award and Fine Arts Teacher of the Year Award for Montgomery County, and has served as the Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State Treble Choir Section Leader, Texas Choral Directors Association Conductor and Clinician, and as host, clinician and adjudicator for many TMEA and UIL events.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the fine group of talented singers the society has brought together,” Orr said. “I cannot wait to see what this season has in store for me and my fellow music lovers in the Conroe and Montgomery County areas.”
On Monday, July 16, the Montgomery County Choral Society has scheduled a Member Meet and Greet event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Conroe’s Pie in the Sky Restaurant, 3600 N. Loop 336 W, 77304.
“The event will be open to all members or potential members of the society,” Orr said. “Anyone who loves to sing and wants to share their passion for music with those of a like mind are invited to attend. I would love to meet them!”
At home in Montgomery, Orr and her husband, Will, have two daughters and a son in college and a daughter in high school.
