Conroe, TX – The Baby Boomers have been turning 65 since 2011 and many have retired. This age group includes anyone born between 1946 and 1964. Why is this relevant to our community? The post-World War II generation birthed over 76 million people during the period and as they age, consumerism changes. They came of age during Vietnam, the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK, Reagan, Nixon, walking on the moon, and when social causes rebelled against the government. By 2020, it is estimated that 25% of the work force will be 55 or older!
Many of the local residents in Montgomery County will be seniors or are presently seniors. Education about how to age gracefully at home with all the resources available to seniors is important to our community. Seniors will soon be the majority of consumers, voters, and decision-makers.
Comforts of Home, LLC of Conroe and Crisis Assistance Center are partnering to host a monthly luncheon the third Wednesday of each month catered to the seniors in the community 65 or older, offering education about reducing utility costs, financial assistance, resource information, and opportunities to engage socially with others. Next luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20 at 11:30 a.m. continuing until 1 p.m. at the Crisis Assistance Center, located at 1022 McCall in Conroe.
Entergy provided information in May about free home assessment to evaluate homes and reduce energy costs. In June, Lisa Wishoun of Field of Vision, LLC will present “Medicare Made Easy.” Future topics include elderly fraud, eating healthy on a budget, free activities in the community for seniors, volunteering for seniors, and how to access assistance when you need it.
Lunch will be provided to all attendees by Fish Tales in Conroe. Register to attend at www.cac-mctx.org, go to the Facebook page for the event www.facebook.com/Comforts-of-Home-LLC-Conroe-TX or call the Crisis Assistance Center at 936.539.1096.
