A winding drive in and around the backroads of the “Texas Hill Country” can only be described as spectacularly wonderful!
Quite often, those backroads take you to places you’ve never heard of where you discover delightful surprises, and Sisterdale, Texas is one of those places … a place where you feel like you’ve stepped back into history. Sprawling canopies of centuries old oaks, carpets of Bluebonnets, and roaming cattle provide just a few of Hill Country images that can linger for a lifetime.
Once home to a post office, a school house, a gas station-garage, a general store, a cotton gin, and a factory for making cypress shingles, Sisterdale now has mere remnants of its early history.
But the old 1885 cotton gin has been restored and has been home to the Sister Creek Vineyards since 1988. A few more additions make this community a fun place to visit.
Built in the late 1800’s, the Sisterdale Dancehall and Opera House, filled this quaint village with music and joy for more than a century. Today it is “the place” for special events – weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, family reunions, and any occasion!
