Special Olympics-Texas, whose mission is is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities – giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community – is looking for volunteers for the Fall Classic 2013 events at Carl Barton, Jr. Park in Conroe, Oct. 24-26.
Potential Volunteer Assignments:
Scoreboard Operator — Tracks strikes, balls, outs, innings, and score on electronic scoreboard. Responsible for continuous verification of this information with Scorekeeper.
Scorekeeper — Keeps all game records in the official score book, including runs, strikes, balls and outs per inning, as well as total score for the game. Records proper batting order and all substitutions during the game. Also responsible for informing the umpire if a batter bats out of order or if a team plays an individual not on the roster. Informs the umpire if either team has exceeded the run limit set for the game in the third or later innings.
Athlete Escort — Escort athletes to correct field, area, etc.
Attire — Please dress for comfort and mobility. Wear comfortable shoes – you will be on your feet most of the time.
