Texian Heritage Festival announces its five-week countdown for the annual family fun event to be held Saturday, October 18 at Fernland Historical Park (780 Clepper Rd) in Montgomery.

The Festival is a family fun outdoor event that depicts the era of the 1800’s with shoot-outs, cannons, reenactments, demonstrators, dancers, entertainment, and a Children’s Corral with hands on activities including stick pony races, potato sack races, tug of war, and crafts, with the majority of the proceeds benefiting Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, a United Way funding agency that has been serving clients throughout the county since 1981 with food, clothing, rent and utility assistance.

Participants will experience Texas history through a broad range of historically accurate events at the Texian Heritage Army and Encampment of members of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and other reenactors with period costumes, demonstrations,  entertainment on the Pioneer Stage, and just plain fun! Visit the craft vendors, watch the Chicawa Aztec dancers perform, and learn how to rope! Enjoy brisket, shaved ice, corn dogs, and Dutch oven cooking!

New this year, Boy Scout Troup 491 of Montgomery will set up camp adjacent to the reenactment encampment.  The boys will demonstrate both Dutch oven cooking and learned crafts of knot tying and leather crafting. Some of the boys will be working on additional merit badges. Interested youth are welcome to come and explore the scouting experience at the event.  “The Scouts will have a good time, be able to share their skills with other prospective boy scouts, and create excitement for others to join. Forty-seven Eagle Scouts have come from Troop 491 since its founding 24 years ago. Scouting teaches life lessons and develops a strong character,” Scoutmaster, Robert Vieau said.

Sponsors include the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, Weisner Automotive, Consolidated Communications, Amegy Bank, the Lake Conroe Rotary Club, and Pizza Shack of Montgomery. Volunteer opportunities can be found at www.TexianHeritage.org . The festival will open at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. with free parking and only $3 admission for the entire day!

Limited vendor booths are still available. Preference will be given to handcrafted, home-made and original items. Historical/Period dressed vendors will be located in a special area of the festival. Booth fee for vendors registering after September 15 is $125.
