MCEA focuses on National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week

Homeless and HungryYou are invited to join the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition  in a week of activities for National  Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Saturday, November 16

Changing the Face of Poverty Resource Awareness Walk (RAW)  

8:30 am at 731 W. Davis (Wally’s Party Factory parking lot)

Please join us for a 3 mile walk around several agencies in downtown Conroe that serve the homeless or preventive services to avoid homelessness. Included agencies are MCEA, MCYS, The Salvation Army, Family Promise, The Oscar Johnson Recreation Center, the Assistance League, and the Homeless Service Center. The walk will start and finish at the Homeless Service Center 731 West Davis. Please bring a non-perishable food donation. Your generosity will help feed those in need!

After the RAW event, Project Homeless Connect will offer resources and services for homeless prevention and those that are experiencing homelessness at the Jett Resource Center (601 Lewis Street in Conroe) from 10a.m.-3 p.m.

Monday, November 18

Empty Bowls Luncheon

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. — Lone Star Family Health Center, 605 S. Conroe Medical Drive

Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread for a donation of $5. For a minimum donation of $10, take home a ceramic Empty bowl made by area students as a reminder of all the Empty Stomachs in the community. Proceeds benefit agencies that feed the hungry in our community.

Wednesday, November 20                

Introduction to the Ruby Payne “Bridges Out of Poverty” Program

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. — Lone Star Family Health Center (605 South Conroe Medical Drive).

This program provides insight into poverty patterns, norms, and strategies for assisting clients of poverty. Light meal will be served.  Limited to 40 seats. Sign up at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HRNQ6H7

Thursday, November 21

Poverty Simulation sponsored by Entergy

9 a.m.-12 noon — First United Methodist Church (4308 W. Davis St. Conroe)

3-hour role playing poverty simulation where participants take on the role of typical situations. Reservations at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PQMWSTB
